Welcome to the wonderful world of water gardening!
Choose from a range of beautiful plants and have them delivered to your
door. |
|
| |
| This year marks a change to the way I will be operating
the water garden nursery. I no longer have a retail display area at the
shop, as there was simply not enough space to offer a full selection of
my plants. Instead, customers anywhere in the UK can now order their
water garden plants online from me through this web site. The plants can
then be delivered by post, or alternatively collected from the shop
premises at a pre-arranged time. More details can be found
here |
| |
| In order to undertake this change it is necessary to
restructure the nursery a bit, so I will not be able to offer the full
range of plants from my collections for a while. More varieties will
be added as things progress. Please check here
for new additions. |

About Me |
| |
| I have been a passionate collector of water plants,
particularly water lilies and iris, for over twenty years. After my
tropical fish shop was set up in 1995, I decided to start
propagating a few of these plants from my collections, for sale to the public.
Hence the nursery was born. Over the years my collection has grown to
include around 200 water lilies and 100 water iris varieties, together
with many marginal species and other aquatics. The collection has been
fuelled in a large part by several unusual imports from little-known
American breeders. I have trialled these plants here for some years,
testing them for their suitability in our rather temperate and
changeable climate. Many have now shown to be some of the most
spectacular and reliable water plants in existence. Surprisingly, many
of these plants are virtually unknown in the United Kingdom - a great
shame as they really deserve to be more widely appreciated. My goal is
to start offering many of these wonderful plants to British
gardeners, albeit in small numbers. |

About The Nursery |
| |
| Wayside is not a large commercial nursery: I
grow a wide range of aquatic plants, but each in small numbers. Each
year I propagate a selection from my private collection and
will make them available through this web site. Because my plants are
grown from my own stocks and are not
bought in like most garden centres today I am able to guarantee that
they are true to name. It is a sad fact that many plants, particularly
water lilies, are sold with unreliable or inaccurate names. This often leads to disappointment
when a plant fails to perform as expected. All
of my pictures on this site are taken of my own stock plants, so you can be 100 %
sure of getting the correct variety. |

The Next Generation Of Water Plants |
| |
| Not being content with this, I have now embarked on a
plant breeding program of my own. Although progress with these things is
naturally slow and very time consuming I hope to be able to offer my
very own unique varieties to my customers in the future. |
| I hope you can share my passion for these wonderful
plants. James |
