Marginal Plants |
|
| |
|
All of the marginal plants I sell are young, vigorous
specimens, specially cultivated here in the nursery. |
| |
|
| Aponogeton distachyus
(Vanilla-scented water hawthorn) |
Available Summer |
| |
|
| One of the best deep-water aquatics, second only to the water
lilies. It has long strap-like green floating leaves that are often
blotched with brown when young. The white flowers are borne just out of
the water and have an incredibly powerful vanilla scent. Unlike most
aquatic plants this is at its best from late summer to spring - it often
dies back in summer but will flower right through the winter in mild
years. This makes it a very useful plant for providing all year interest
when other species are dormant. Also, unlike many water lilies, it grows
well in shade. |

mounds of heart-shaped green leaves. An absolute must for giving spring
colour to the margins of your pond. Often producing a second crop of
flowers in autumn. |
